It's the end of a long and beautiful chapter for GT too. In November, the brand with the four rings delivered its last example of the R8 LMS GT3, which wore the colours of the German manufacturer for fifteen long years in various Grand Touring championships around the world. It was Chris Reinke, head of the customer racing department at Audi Sport, who was responsible for handing over the keys to the new owner of this historic example, Michael Doppelmayr, who drives in the 24H Series in particular.
The German received the 310th and final example of a model that has been a staple in GT3 since its launch in 2009. In fifteen years of competition and a few technical and aesthetic developments, the Audi R8 LMS GT3 has won an impressive total of 125 Drivers' titles and 197 various championships throughout its career, not to mention prestigious successes at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and the 24 Hours of Spa.
The end of production of the Audi R8 LMS GT3 follows the German manufacturer's decision, taken in mid-2023, to end its customer competition department. A decision which was also part of the German brand's policy of betting heavily on its arrival in Formula 1, announced for 2026. This “end clap” for Audi Sport Customer Service means the end of official activities in GT3, while all official Audi drivers have left in the last two years. Audi Sport will nevertheless continue to support its current customers still involved in the various championships. The spare parts sales service will also remain available.
