Busy day, or rather evening due to the time difference, for Ford. Indeed, the oval brand took the opportunity to make big announcements concerning its sports department. Inevitably and logically, the one that caught the most attention was that of the LMDh program confirmed from 2027. The Detroit manufacturer did not go into more details, leaving the chassis partner still a mystery.
« We are entering a new era for performance and racing at Ford, said Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company. It shows in what we do on and off the road. When we race, we do it to win. And there is no track or race that has more significance in our history than Le Mans. This is where we faced Ferrari and won in the 1960s. That’s where we came back 50 years later and shocked the world by beating Ferrari again. I’m thrilled that we’re returning to Le Mans and competing at the highest level of endurance racing. We’re ready to challenge the world once again and go all out! »
An announcement that probably made less noise in Australia where the one concerning the new partnership with an old partner caused a lot of talk. Indeed, Ford and Triple Eight will join forces once again. The two parties have formalized their union from the 2026 Supercars season. The team currently led by local legend Jamie Whincup will therefore abandon Chevrolet and its Camaros which had taken over from the Holden Commodore at the time of the introduction of the Gen3 in 2023 for Ford Mustangs.
« This team is incredible, Whincup smiled. None of our achievements would have been possible without the passionate people who work in this organization. The Oval is more than a logo, and it’s not just about winning. We recognized the same passion in Ford that we have here at Triple Eight. Everyone on this team is eager to continue our success and deliver an exciting show for our fans. »
Between Ford and Triple Eight, the story goes back to the early 2000s when the team entered Falcons from 2003 to 2009. A period during which Jamie Whincup notably won 4 of his 7 titles (a record in the championship). Not to mention three victories at the Bathurst 1000 (2006-2008).
