The Tickford Racing driver won ahead of his team-mate Thomas Randle, with the two black and green Fords finishing ahead of Broc Feeney's Chevrolet Camaro. Feeney now moves up to second in the championship, and is closing in on his team-mate Will Brown, who remains the overall leader despite starting from the back of the grid. The Triple Eight driver moved up to seventh, and managed to extend his lead over his biggest rival before the start, Chaz Mostert.
Mostert suffered from sensor problems in his gearbox, and quickly found himself stuck in the pack. Finishing tenth, he is now 243 points behind Will Brown in the championship, with 450 points left to distribute. The Surfers Paradise round will continue this Sunday with a second race this weekend. Will it be as clean as the one this Saturday? For the first time in the history of the "Gold Coast", all the starters have crossed the finish line...
