Townsville – Race 1: Cam Waters wins despite the rain

It took two hours to find out the outcome of this 13th round of the Australian Supercars season, but it was worth it! Cam Waters emerged victorious from a duel that lasted almost the entire event against another Mustang, that of Chaz Mostert. The two drivers exchanged control on several occasions, but it was Waters who managed to make the decisive overtake, despite a downpour which disrupted the smooth running of the event. However, there was only a 5% chance of rain before the start, but it was keen to play a role in this magnificent duel! However, the two men managed to keep their cars on the track in a short but intense downpour.

« C"It was an awesome race, I had so many great battles throughout the race.", declared the winner of the day. “Chazzie was faster at the start of the relay, and I was faster at the end, so it led to some good fights. My car handled the tires superbly well, so thanks to the whole Tickford team for giving me such a good car. »

The tires, certainly the factor which prevented Will Davison from joining the lead battle until the end. The Shell V-Power Racing driver managed to get in between Waters and Mostert at the start of the race. Unfortunately, difficulties keeping his tires in good condition saw him fall down the standings after the second pit stop. Davison ultimately finished eighth. The final place on the podium went to championship leader Will Brown, who took third place in the final laps from Matthew Payne.

After a magnificent first race in Townsville, Sunday promises, with a second contest, the 14th round of the 2024 season!
