It was in Indianapolis in 2014 that Juan Pablo Montoya last sat behind the wheel of a car of the NASCAR Cup Series, on behalf of Team Penske. The Colombian driver will therefore make his return on September 15 at Watkins Glen, a circuit on which he won one of his two Cup victories (2010), three years after his first success on another road circuit, Sonoma in California. .
« I can't wait to get back into a Cup car and race at Watkins Glen, a track that I really like and was lucky enough to experience earlier in my career.", explains Montoya. « I'm also looking forward to working with 23XI and seeing what the team is building. »
23XI, a team co-founded by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan, is in fact one of the most recent structures involved in the NASCAR Cup Series. Juan Pablo Montoya will drive at Watkins Glen the Toyota n°50, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Mobil 1 this season. Kamui Kobayashi (in Austin) and Corey Heim (in Nashville) also drove this third car for the team, lined up alongside the #23 of Bubba Wallace, and the #45 of Tyler Reddick.
