Mikel Azcona wins first race in Zhuzhou

Santiago Urrutia (Cyan Racing- Lynk & Co 03) took pole position for the first race. On the starting grid, he finished ahead of his two teammates Thed Björk and Yann Ehrlacher. The Lynk & Co 03s proved uncompromising in qualifying. 

The rain starts to fall just before the race. It is a tire lottery that will decide the fate of race 1. Like all the drivers on the front rows, the 2022 TCR champion Mikel Azcona starts on slick tires. He manages to overtake all the Lynk & Co drivers and takes the lead. The Spaniard showed great mastery to go for his victory on slick tires on a very slippery track. He is ahead of Esteban Guerrieri (Goat Racing- Honda Civic Type-R) who made a very good comeback. Author of an impeccable race, the Swede Björk leaves no chance to the double French world champion. In great difficulty with his car in the wet, the Alsatian must be satisfied with 4th position in the race. 

In the championship standings, Norbert Michelisz (BRC Competizione- Hyundai Elantra) 7th in the race retains the lead of the championship, but the gaps are closing. The top 5 are held within 33 points while there are still 3 rounds to go.
