Expected to be a force to be reckoned with at Pikes Peak this weekend of June 22nd, Romain Dumas was present this Thursday for the practice and qualifying sessions. The third day of the event saw a total of 73 riders compete, including 27 Pikes Peak Open participants. The French rider, who has held the hill climb record since 2018, clocking a total time of 7:57.148, achieved the second-best time of the day at 3:34.073, placing him just behind Simone Faggioli, who set the benchmark for this Thursday at 3:33.757.
While he told us this Thursday that second place would be the maximum objective he wanted to set for himself behind a favorite Faggioli aboard his Nova prototype, Romain Dumas was able to carry out his final tests before the fateful moment of the weekend. “The most important thing is the confidence I have in the car because the test sessions are rare, he advanced. I really need to build up my confidence to try to get the most out of it. In a very short space of time, we have to try everything and set up the car as best we can."
Aboard his Super Mustang Mach-E EV, the Gard native even managed to set a reference time of 3:32.261, an absolute record for the three days of competition, but this mark was ultimately not officially recorded.
