The case is reminiscent of the one that affected the Albi circuit in the Tarn region of France in recent years. This time, however, it seems that the passion for motorsport has lost out to local residents, as the Poznań circuit in Poland must now be closed. The initial decision to close the circuit was made in October 2023, but the circuit owners appealed. This appeal was rejected on Tuesday, April 14, leading to the closure of the country's only FIA-approved (Grade 3) circuit.
The situation is absurd in more ways than one, given that the circuit opened in 1977, and numerous houses were built around it in the years that followed. Furthermore, the Poznań circuit is located just a few dozen meters from the city's airport, where one can imagine the noise level is at least as high as during a track day at the circuit.
Robert Kubica, the only Polish driver to have won a Grand Prix of Formula 1 and 24 Hours of Le Mans, took place on this circuit in 2010 at the wheel of his Renault F1, as part of a road show. The closure of the Poznań circuit is a major blow to an entire nation of motorsport, and several influential drivers and team members have reacted on social media.

A track located very close to the airport which, with some modifications, could have interested Liberty Media if there were a Polish driver in F1, as it's very close to the center of a major city, though less glamorous than Madrid. Indeed, the Przeźmierowo district is new and built perfectly aligned with the international airport's single runway—perfect for an air disaster... Track days must be infinitely quieter than the constant takeoffs and landings!
