In the Canary Islands mountains, the weather can change rapidly, and this was certainly the case between SS9 and SS10. After the first timed section was completed in sunshine and on dry roads, rain arrived towards the end of SS10, making the surface particularly slippery. In these challenging conditions, Elfyn Evans fared best, setting the fastest time of the stage, 2,5 seconds ahead of Oliver Solberg, and 4,4 seconds ahead of [the other driver]. Sébastien Ogier, which retains control of the rally.
The podium, still comprised of the three men, became much tighter after this tricky stage. Ogier now leads the overall standings by 5,4 seconds over Solberg, and 10,3 seconds over Evans. Sami Pajari maintained his fourth place ahead of Takamoto Katsuta, but the Japanese driver gained more than six seconds on the Finn, reducing the gap by half.
In WRC2, Yohan Rossel continues to lead the way, he has gained 3,3 seconds on the Spaniard Alejandro Cachón, still second in the overall standings.
