Taking advantage of a gap of nearly five seconds at the end of the fifth special stage of the Rally from Japan, Sébastien Ogier has once again gained three seconds on his pursuers. Leader of the WRCElfyn Evans finished the stage three seconds behind, a stage dominated by the eight-time world champion who is clearly in contention. Sébastien Ogier now trails Takamoto Katsuta, who sits in second place, by 8,1 seconds.
Second overall, the Japanese driver, who keeps repeating his ambition to finish the day in first place, is finding things a little more complicated. Third in this new special stage, perfectly tied with Sami Pajari, the driver Toyota Elfyn Evans notably shaved two-tenths of a second off his time. Indeed, while Sébastien Ogier managed to complete this section in 10:18.9, the Welshman clocked a time of 10:21.9. No other driver subsequently managed to break the 10:22.0 barrier.

With the aim of overtaking Sami Pajari in the rankings, Adrien fourmaux He, for his part, will have work to do for the rest of the day. Fifth in this SS6, and fifth overall, the driver Hyundai continues to dominate its counterparts, but remains behind its Finnish rival. On this stage, 1,2 seconds separate them, while a 2,4-second gap can be observed in the overall standings.
In WRC2, Oliver Solberg once again dominated his rivals, although only Alejandro Cachon seems satisfied with his car at this stage. The action continues from 8:16 AM (French time), with the seventh and final stage of the loop.
