Saudi Arabia Rally – SS16: Ogier wins and moves up to third overall

The 16th special stage of the Saudi Arabia Rally was the longest of this final event of the season at 33,28 km. Sébastien Ogier won it and is in a good position to secure a ninth title.

Saudi Arabia Rally – SS16: Ogier wins and moves up to third overall

Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) is on track for a ninth world title. The Frenchman attacked during this longest special stage of the Rally from Saudi Arabia, which consists of long straight sections, and posted the fastest time over the 33,28 kilometers. The rider from Gap finished ahead of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Sami Pajari (Toyota). Fourth, Elfyn Evans (Toyota) is now seven points behind Ogier in the championship with only the Power Stage remaining.

This 16th special stage was eventful with punctures for Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) and Mārtiņš Sesks (M-SportThe Finn has lost all hope of the title while the Latvian can no longer win this rally. Adrien fourmaux (Hyundai) lost a lot of time in the dust at Sesks. Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota) rolled his car. The Japanese driver finished the stage, but his car is badly damaged. Hampered by the dust at Sesks, Adrien Fourmaux (Hyundai) was credited with some of his lost time at the finish.

Despite all these setbacks, Sébastien Ogier now sits in third place in the Saudi Arabia Rally. While he's more than a minute behind Thierry Neuville, the key factor is his lead over Evans, who is in sixth. The Belgian Hyundai driver is well-positioned to finally win a rally this season.
