Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) made a big move in the championship fight. During SS2, a 19,36km stage, he took all the risks, while Elfyn Evans played it safe. A gamble that paid off for the Frenchman, who completed the stage in 14:34.7, securing third place in the stage and maintaining second place in the standings. RallyHe thus put 13,7 seconds between himself and his direct rival for the world title. For his part, the Welshman finished 10th in SS2 and is 9th overall.
In front of the Frenchman, Mārtiņš Sesks (M-SportHe made a strong statement. He was one of the last drivers to set off on a tricky course – Josh McErlean even suffered a puncture due to stones thrown onto the track – but he was never troubled. He completed the course in 10:38.6, three tenths ahead of Sami Pajari (Toyota) and 1,3 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier.
Just behind Ogier, Adrien fourmaux takes fourth place, missing the podium in the special stage by a small tenth. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) cracked his windshield during a hard landing halfway through the race. This did not prevent the Belgian from achieving a solid top-five finish, three seconds ahead of Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) in sixth place.
Thursday's Saudi Arabia Rally features six additional special stages, meaning the standings could change significantly. As a reminder, three points separate Elfyn Evans from Sébastien Ogier before the final round of the championship.
In WRC2, Oliver Solberg inflicts another defeat on his opponents, and now has a 19-second lead over Roope Korhonen in the overall standings.
