- Dramatic twist in the fight for victory over the Rally from Finland: Elfyn Evans, who was until then 2nd, around ten seconds behind leader Kalle Rovanperä, encountered a mechanical problem during SS12. The Welshman first spun at low speed, before finishing the special in slow motion, with a suspected problem with the driveshaft.
- The pilot Toyota, one of the major players in the title race, lost 1'24 in his misadventure and is now in 5th place overall... but he still needs to be able to finish this first loop, since he remains the long and emblematic Ouninpohja special to be played this Saturday morning.
- Kalle Rovanperä didn't ask for that much in his quest for a first home victory. The Finn continued to attack and scored a new fastest time during SS12, ahead of Esapekka Lappi. The Toyota driver now leads the Rally Finland with a 21″8 lead over Sébastien Ogier, his new heir apparent.
- Thierry Neuville et Adrien fourmaux take advantage of Elfyn Evans' misadventure to gain a position: the Belgian is now in the Top 3 while the Frenchman, still frustrated by a capricious Ford Puma, is in 4th place.
