Finland - SS8: Neuville the fastest between the puddles

A little ray of sunshine in Hyundai's dark day: Thierry Neuville set the best time of SS8 on a wet course. Kalle Rovanperä lost some time to Elfyn Evans at the top of Rally Finland.

An Hyundai at the top of the rankings, finally! For the first time today, it's not a Toyota who sets the best time in a special, but the Hyundai of Thierry Neuville. The Belgian set the best time on SS8 in exactly 7 minutes, ahead of the three big names from the Toyota team. The championship leader, who opens the road, was able to navigate between the large puddles present on the course after the heavy downpours of the day.
Kalle Rovanperä did not make it to four: after having signed three consecutive scratches, the Finn “only” set the 4th time, behind his two teammates. The local hero lost 1″ to Elfyn Evans, meaning his lead at the top of the Rally of Finland is only 6″5 ahead of the Welshman, and 9″6 ahead Sébastien Ogier.
Behind the Top 4, the positions are fixed: Adrien fourmaux is relegated to more than 35 seconds from the podium, while Sami Pajari and Grégoire Munster are already more than a minute and a half from the leaders.
