Michèle Mouton's wild 1982 season in the World Rally Championship will soon be adapted into a series event. As France Télévisions announced in a press release this week, filming of the television work, which will be titled RALLY 82, will begin later this month.

Starring actress Ana Girardot, this tribute, in four 45-minute episodes, will retrace the exceptional career of Michèle Mouton, the only woman in history to have won a World Rally Championship. Filming will take place in various regions, including Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Île-de-France, and Senegal, and will recreate the key stages of the 1982 World Rally Championship season and Michèle Mouton's rise in the world of motorsport, where she had to prove herself as a female athlete.

« With Rally 82we want to tell more than a motorsport story, says Guillaume Le Gros for HBO Max. It's the story of a woman's struggle to exist, a woman who defied convention to establish herself in a world where she was not expected. This project celebrates courage, but also emancipation and perseverance—deeply universal themes. »

The story, embellished by fiction, will also focus on Michèle Mouton's rivalry with German legend Walter Röhrl, to whom she lost this championship by 12 points, despite having one more achievement in the number of victories. The broadcast of Rally 82 is planned for 2026, in the first window on HBO Max and later on France Télévisions.
