Monte-Carlo – SS7: Evans confirms his good form

• After a hectic morning, it was a relatively calm start to the afternoon on this Rally Monte-Carlo. With the sun and the passages of this morning, the black ice disappeared on SS7 and gave way to mud, more and more present as the special progressed. Unlike this morning, it was therefore the first to start who had the advantage, and this was not missed by Elfyn Evans, author of the best time of SS7 in 10'35″6 – a time one minute faster than this Friday morning! The Welshman thus increased his lead at the head of the Rallye Monte-Carlo and now has a 7″9 advantage over Sébastien Ogier.
• Faster on the first part of the special, the drivers who started after the first three suffered at the end of the special. This was the case in particular for Adrien fourmaux, Takamoto Katsuta and Kalle Rovanperä: all three were ahead at the halfway point, and all three finished several seconds behind Elfyn Evans when they crossed the finish line. Nevertheless, the Finn still managed to beat Ott Tänak and Grégoire Munster to climb to 4th place in the general classification, 26″8 behind the leader.
• After their mishap during SS6, Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville were able to set off again this afternoon after a great effort from the mechanics at Hyundai. The Belgian, immediately in the rhythm, is still 1'53″7 behind Elfyn Evans in the general standings. It's hard to imagine him coming back to the leaders to play for the win... but be careful, SS8 could trap more than one, since the Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes / La Bâtie-Neuve special was not used this morning due to the cancellation of SS5!
