Andreas Roos, BMW's motorsport director, told us that he was knocking on wood on Saturday morning, as major problems had spared his cars at Daytona so far. It was finally during the race that the first major problem appeared with the immobilization of the No. 25 after only an hour of racing.

« Some early technical issues for the #8 BMW M Hybrid V25. The car with Nick Yelloly at the wheel is now back in the garage for checks and repairs. We are doing everything we can to ensure that she can leave as quickly as possible. », indicates the firm to the propeller on Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, the technical problems are linked to hybridization and the MGU on the prototype, dismantled in its box. If the race is probably lost with already 25 laps behind, it is expected that the BMW M Hybrid V8 will return to the track as soon as possible to continue its development. The German LMDh is in fact the youngest of the bunch and has not yet carried out a 24-hour test. It will therefore be important for the team to return to racing as soon as possible, also to allow the drivers to gain experience.

At BMW, we also cherish the sweet hope of seeing others encounter misadventures. “ Others may have problems too », soufflait ainsi Yelloly en descendant de la voiture. La Porsche n°7 a ainsi ralenti peu après la première heure de course, mais a repris son rythme en huitième position. Les ennuis n’arrivant jamais seuls, la BMW n°24 est pénalisée d’un drive through pour avoir eu trop de personnes travaillant sur la voiture lors d’un arrêt.

In the other categories, the Ferrari 296 GT3 No. 47 of Cetilar Racing returned to its garage to repair a damaged flat bottom. The Italian team plans to return to the track when the repairs are completed.
