After receiving more than 70 registrations wishing to participate in the 61st edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 28 and 29, 2023, those responsible for theIMSA have confirmed a 61-car roster for the season-opening round.

55 of the 61 entered are for the other rounds of theEndurance (Sebring, Glen, Small Le Mans) and 45 are for the entire IMSA season. This limit of 61 is the maximum capacity with the new Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) machines requiring slightly larger stands than their predecessors. Initially limited to 60 cars, the list expanded at the last minute with the entry of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 N°75 entered under the name SunEnergy 1 by Akkodis ASP in the GTD category.

The 24 2023 Hours of Daytona, already a success for IMSA

“Over 70 total entries and a field of 60 cars as we begin a new era of WeatherTech Championship competition speaks volumes about the interest in international endurance sports car racing and our IMSA platform , declared the president of the latter, John Doonan. Arriving at this list of 60 cars entered for the 61st edition of the Rolex 24 required a substantial effort on the part of our team. We are proud to field one of the strongest and most competitive fields we have seen and look forward to putting on a terrific show for a global audience of racing fans next month. »

The first race of the new GTP category will see a total of nine participants representing four manufacturers: Acura, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche. All nine cars participated in a two-day test session hosted by IMSA at Daytona International Speedway on December 6-7.

The GT Daytona (GTD) class will once again have the most representatives with 24 entries having been selected. The GTD field will feature GT3 race cars from nine different manufacturers – Acura, Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche – with Pro-Am driver lineups.

The GTD Pro class returns with eight entries from seven different manufacturers: Aston Marin, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche. There Ferrari 296 GT3, the Porsche 911 GT3 R and the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 will make their respective debuts in these two categories.

Entries that were not selected were placed on a reserve list and may replace current entries that withdraw prior to the event. An updated entry list including driver lineups will be published in January.
