In Detroit (Michigan), at the headquarters of General Motors, the double retirement of Corvette 24 Hours of Le Mans is still on everyone's minds. Dominant all week in the Sarthe, the two C8.Rs were unable to complete their effort, a damaged left rear suspension having got the better of the race of Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor, associated with Nicky Catsburg for the Le Mans classic, while they were in the lead. The sister car was, for its part, mowed down a few hours later in the Hunaudières by the AF Corse n°83 of François Perrodo.

Garcia and Taylor, engaged for the year in IMSA, will return to their usual championship this weekend at the 6 Hours of Glen, fourth round of theEndurance Cup. The opportunity to bounce back after the disappointment at Le Mans, on a circuit where the duo won twice in 2021 during the double headers on the New York circuit.

“I really, really like this race, admits Antonio Garcia. I really like this circuit. I think it was my very first race in America in Grand-Am (the former name of the championship. Editor’s note). We have generally been strong there. Since it's a six-hour race, there's always something happening. It can be very hot, there can be thunderstorms… you never know how a race at Watkins Glen will go. That's why experience is a good thing to have there. I think I raced in all the conditions there, so I'm looking forward to getting back into this new class and seeing how the C8.R spec fits into it. »

“Winning last year was special, adds Jordan Taylor. It was always on my father's shopping list. (Wayne Taylor. Editor’s note) wanted to win as a driver. I think it was the only endurance race he didn't win. He won Daytona, Sebring, Petit Le Mans and Le Mans, so the one he always talked about was the Six Hours. The same thing was happening to me. I had gone all these years without winning it. I finished second once or twice, I think, and there was always a little something missing. It was pretty special to finally have something click and everything work. It really kicked off our season last year with a good run of success. »

49 cars are expected for this new meeting of the North American championship season.
