Formula Racing replaces Spirit of Race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Formula Racing won in Barcelona in ELMS this year - Eric Alonso / DPPI

Previously included in the list of reserves, the Danish Formula Racing team is promoted to the list of entrants for the next 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 15-16). Victorious at the 4 Hours of Barcelona, opening round of the 2024 European Le Mans Series season, in the GT3 category, the team regains the entry of Spirit of Race. The Swiss team was to participate in the event with Duncan Cameron, Matthew Griffin and David Perel.

The three men will be replaced by the Laursen family, father Johnny (already at the start in 2016) and his 17-year-old son Conrad (1st participation), as well as by a third driver whose name is not yet known. In the European Le Mans Series, the duo is accompanied by Nicklas Nielsen, but he will already be at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Hypercar category with Ferrari. For regulatory reasons, this new entry will run under the name Spirit of Race and under the Swiss flag. The Laursen family will drive in Sarthe on a Ferrari 296.

« This is incredible news, which takes us a little by surprise, because we were on the reserve list, said Formula Racing team principal Allan Jørgensen. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most prestigious automotive event in the world, and every car team in our sport dreams of winning this legendary event, including us. We are proud and impatient to be on the starting grid for the second time in our history. » Formula Racing finished 35th in 2016 with Johnny Laursen, but also Christina Nielsen and Mikkel Mac.
