ALMS – Core Autosport in LMPC and GT

After winning the LMPC title last year, Core Autosport has confirmed its commitment to LMPC with runners-up Colin Braun and Jon Bennett who also owns the team. But the novelty concerns its entry in GT with a Porsche 911 RSR GTE entrusted to Tom Kimber-Smith and Patrick Long from the Flying Lizard. “Core Autosport has had huge success in LMPC but now we want to broaden our horizons and prove what the team can do”, comments Jon Bennett. “Our goal for 2013 is to build a solid infrastructure capable of running two cars. We want to prove that we are capable of being victorious in GT and this season will be a learning year for us. We know that this category is one of the most competitive in the world and we will face not only other Porsche customer teams but also the Corvette, the Ferrari and BMWs. »

After taking the LMP2 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Starworks Motorsport and competed the full season ofELMS within Greaves Motorsport, Tom Kimber-Smith will return to the wheel of a GT for the 2013 ALMS season. “As soon as I heard about this program, I knew I wanted to be part of it,” says the 28-year-old Briton. “I'm excited to be playing the full ALMS season, I don't think there's another World Championship that I love as much...Having Patrick (Long) as a teammate is truly fantastic. Even though I have already won the GT category at Le Mans (GT2 victory in 2006 with Team LNT's Panoz Esperante), I have never driven a Porsche and that will give me an extra advantage. Patrick is really fast behind the wheel of a Porsche and I couldn't ask for a better teammate. It will be a huge challenge for Core Autosport and myself, entry into GT will not be easy but Patrick's presence will be a very valuable help. »
