VIR – Qualifying: Tommy Milner in pole position for… 3 thousandths!

Qualifying for the Michelin GT Challenge, the penultimate round of the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season, took place this Friday, October 8 at the Virginia International Raceway, also known as VIR. An event whose particularity is the absence of the three prototype categories entered in this championship: DPi, LM P2 and LM P3. Only GTLMs and GTDs are in contention at Alton.

De retour en terres américaines pour la première fois depuis les 24 Heures de Daytona le 31 janvier dernier, Kévin Estre n’a pas tardé à retrouver ses marques. Choisi pour épauler l’inépuisable Cooper MacNeil au volant de la Porsche 911 RSR – 19 numéro 79, le Français a ainsi dominé les deux séances d’Essais Libres de la journée avant de laisser la place à son coéquipier pour la séance qualificative dans cette catégorie GTLM à trois voitures. L’Américain n’a cependant pas réussi à imiter les performances du Lyonnais puisqu’il s’est incliné face à la vélocité des deux Chevrolet Corvette C8.R. Tommy Milner a signé la pole position avec la numéro 4 en 1:40.263 devant Jordan Taylor à seulement… 0.003 !

In the GTD category, the best time went to Ross Gunn on theAston Martin Vantage GT3 number 23 in 1:43.356 ahead of sister car number 27 driven by Alex Riberas (1:43.497) and the Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth (1:43.700)
