Qualifying for the Michelin GT Challenge, the penultimate round of the WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season, took place this Friday, October 8 at the Virginia International Raceway, also known as VIR. An event whose particularity is the absence of the three prototype categories entered in this championship: DPi, LM P2 and LM P3. Only GTLMs and GTDs are in contention at Alton.

Returning to American soil for the first time since the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 31, Kévin Estre wasted no time in finding his feet. Chosen to support the inexhaustible Cooper MacNeil at the wheel of the Porsche 911 RSR – 19 number 79, the Frenchman dominated the two Free Practice sessions of the day before giving way to his teammate for the qualifying session in this three-car GTLM category. The American, however, did not succeed in imitating the performance of the Lyonnais since he lost out to the speed of the two Chevrolet Corvette C8.Rs. Tommy Milner took pole position with number 4 in 1:40.263 ahead of Jordan Taylor by just… 0.003!

In the GTD category, the best time went to Ross Gunn on theAston Martin Vantage GT3 number 23 in 1:43.356 ahead of sister car number 27 driven by Alex Riberas (1:43.497) and the Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth (1:43.700)
