1000 Miles of Sebring – Red flag, Toyota nº7 damaged

The #7 Toyota will not see the finish of the 1000 Miles of Sebring after a spectacular off-track crash by José Maria López. The pilot is fine. The race is interrupted by a red flag.

Spectacular accident 1000 Miles of Sebring. After a first clash with a latecomer, José Maria López lost control of the Toyota #7. The GR010 ended its race in the wall of tires, the prototype ending up on the roof. The driver immediately got out of his car unharmed. The race was interrupted under a red flag on the 112th lap, 3h33 after the start.

An accident in two stages

The accident occurred in two stages Pechito. The Argentinian first clashed with the Porsche nº88 of the Dempsey – Proton Racing, throwing him into the tire wall for the first time. Returning to the track, José Maria López resumed his lap at a slow pace despite the wall of white smoke behind his car and the rickety parts of his GR010. A few seconds later, he lost control of his prototype which crashed violently into the wall of tires before turning over. Fortunately, López very quickly emerged from his cabin unscathed.

In the standings, the other Toyota still in the running, number 8, leads the race ahead ofAlpine A480-Gibson, started from pole position, but pitted once again. Glickenhaus completes the overall podium. In LM P2, it is Prema who is now in the lead ahead of the two United Autosports USA. No change in GT, with Corvette leading the Pro category ahead of the two Porsches. THE Aston Martin lead the Am peloton with Northwest AMR ahead of TF Sport.

The clock not being stopped, the race resumed with 3h44 still to go, with the passage to the pits of the No. 8 Toyota. Alpine therefore took back control of the event.
