1000 Miles of Sebring – EL2: Toyota double ahead of Ferrari

Toyota further increased the pace at Sebring by signing a new double during Free Practice 2. The first Ferrari was pushed back by more than a second.

The Toyota GR010 Hybrids are going faster and faster in Florida. During the second Free Practice session of 1000 Miles of Sebring, opening round of the 2023 season of WEC, the two Japanese prototypes signed a new double after those of the Prologue. Kamui Kobayashi was the fastest at the wheel of the No. 7 with a best lap of 1’46”954. Brendon Hartley was positioned in second position at 0”318 seconds.

The pursuers were pushed back by more than a second with the Ferrari No. 50 in third place. This second Free Practice session for the 1000 Miles of Sebring was notably interrupted by a red flag following a collision between the No. 2 Cadillac driven by Richard Westbrook and the Porsche 911 RSR – 19 n°88 from Proton Competition driven by Ryan Hardwick. Despite everything, the American manufacturer places its LMDh in fourth position, ahead of the second Ferrari.

Glickenhaus is making progress by moving up to 6th place in the hierarchy in 1'49''700, ahead of the Porsches and the Peugeot . Vanwall remains in last position.

On the LM P2 side, it was the No. 28 JOTA which rose to the top of the timesheet in 1'50''326 thanks to Floridian Pietro Fittipaldi, born in Miami. The Brazilian got the better of the two United Autosports.

Another Brazilian distinguished himself in LMGTE Am in the person of Daniel Serra. The Ferrari driver set the best time in this category in 1’58”845 for Kessel Racing. Nicky Catsburg once again placed the Corvette on the podium, ahead of theAston Martin Vantage AMR n°777 from D’Station Racing.
