1812 km of Qatar: Corvette takes first pole of the LMGT3 era

Corvette hits a big blow. For the beginnings in WEC of the new Z06 LMGT3.R, Tom Van Rompuy took pole on the Losail international circuit, scene of the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening round of the world championship ofEndurance FIA 2024.

Aboard the No. 81 which he shares with Angolan Rui Andrade and Irishman Charlie Eastwood, the Belgian becomes the first pole-sitter of the LMGT3 era with a time of 1'54"372.

Van Rompuy especially repels his main pursuer, the Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3 n°92 from Manthey PureRxcing, more than 8/10ths. There Ferrari No. 54 from Vista AF Corse completes the Top 3.

Present in Hyperpole, the Iron Dames placed 6th aboard their #3 Lamborghini Huracan LMGT2 Evo85.

Both McLaren 720S from the United Autosports team, the #4 BMW M3 GT46 from Team WRT, and the second Ferrari Vista AF Corse, the #55, complete the Top 10.

For 2/10ths, the other Corvette Z06 from TF Sport, the No. 82 driven by the Japanese Hiroshi Koizumi, was the first eliminated from Q1.

Team WRT's other BMW M4, the #31, also stopped in the opening segment.

None of the Lexus RC Fs from Akkodis ASP managed to enter Hyperpole, just like the Ford Mustangs from Proton Competition. The No. 77 also brings up the rear after not having completed any timed laps during qualifying due to persistent technical problems.
