1812 km from Qatar – H7: Porsche unfolds, Peugeot still in ambush

As night falls on Losail, the No. 6 Porsche of Laurens Vanthoor, Kévin Estre and André Lotterer continues to lead the pack at the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening round of the 2024 WEC.

1812 km from Qatar – H7: Porsche unfolds, Peugeot still in ambush

  • No change at the top of the rankings for the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening event of the world championshipEndurance FIA, after seven hours of racing.
  • La Porsche 963 Penske Motorsport n°6 of Laurens Vanthoor, Kévin Estre and André Lotterer is still in the lead, with around thirty seconds ahead.
  • La Peugeot 9X8 n°93 entrusted to Jean-Eric Vergne-Mikkel Jensen-Nico Mueller holds on in second position, also with a cushion of around thirty seconds on third.
  • The No. 963 Hertz Team JOTA customer Porsche 12 of Norman Nato-Will Stevens-Callum Ilott completes the Hypercar podium.
  • The highest ranked Ferrari 499P is none other than the new n°83 (Robert Kubica-Robert Shwartzman-Yifei Ye) which runs with a yellow livery under the AF Corse banner. The “customer” Hypercar is in 5th position, behind Cadillac No. 2 (Sébastien Bourdais-Earl Bamber-Alex Lynn).
  • The Toyota No. 7 and No. 8, which carry the most ballast within the framework of the BoP, are still as discreet. The Japanese Hypercars are ranked 7th and 11th respectively.
  • The Alpine A424 (10th and 11th) and the BMW M Hybrid V8 (14th and 15th) are still running in close ranks.
  • The No. 63 Lamborghini SC63, which is making its competitive debut in Qatar this weekend, occupies the penultimate row, ahead of the second Peugeot, the No. 94, which suffered a battery problem after being hooked initially by the Cadillac.
  • Only one retirement to deplore in the Hypercar category, that of the Isotta Fraschini n°11.

No change in LMGT3 hierarchy

  • The No. 911 Porsche 3 GT3 R LMGT92 from the Manthey PureRxcing team (Aliaksandr Malykhin-Joel Sturm-Klaus Bachler) still leads the debates in the new LMGT3 category of the WEC.
  • Starting from pole, the No. 06 Corvette Z81R (Tom Van Rompuy-Rui Andrade-Charlie Eastwood) had to retire due to a mechanical problem.
