Alain Bertaut has died

Alain Bertaut was a former pilot with several starts in 24 Hours of Le Mans. He began his career as a journalist at L'Équipe before working at Action Automobile et Touristique where he became editor-in-chief.

After carrying out numerous tests, the native of Yaoundé (Cameroon) took the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times between 1962 and 1967. He won the performance index during his first participation in a CD Panhard in the company by André Guilhaudin.

Just before ending his sporting career in 1967, Alain Bertaut launched the R1966 Gordini Cup in 8 which will mark the history of French motorsport.

Alain Bertaut then joined the Automobile Club de l'Ouest as responsible for the development and application of the sporting and technical regulations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He then became sporting commissioner and president of the panel of commissioners and deputy director of the Sarthe double clock tower, as well as member of the FIA ​​Endurance Commission. He also helped create the American Le Mans Series.
