BMW concludes testing of the M8 GTE at Paul-Ricard

BMW Motorsport had sent its engineers to the south of France, to the Paul-Ricard track (Var) for three days of intensive testing. On the program, the development of the future weapon of the propeller brand in the World ChampionshipEndurance (WEC) from the 2018 season: the M8 GTE. The model will also be eligible for the GTLM and GTE Pro class in Imsa American.

During these tests, official BMW drivers Martin Tomczyk, Antonio Félix Da Costa, Philipp Eng and Alexander Sims took turns running various simulation programs, including a 24-hour non-stop test. A milestone successfully reached according to the German manufacturer's commitment director, Jens Marquardt: “The development of the car continues its course. We found that it can withstand an endurance test without serious problem. But of course, when you introduce a new model, there is always room to improve it. »
 
Martin Tomczyk may well have noted “one or two minor glitches”, the M8 is satisfactory. “It’s more than promising”, noted Philipp Eng. “We have not faced any major problems. Driving and performance are very satisfactory. » The BMW is powered by a 8-liter twin-turbo V4, delivering a whopping 500 horsepower. The first official competitive outing is planned for the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of January 2018.
