The ranking of the 1812 km of Qatar finds itself turned upside down almost a month later. An official document indicates that the Cadillac V-Series n°2 of Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Sébastien Bourdais is disqualified from the opening event of the FIA WEC, while the American prototype crossed the finish line in fourth position.
The reason: the bodywork did not conform to that presented during homologation.
« 3D scanning results and other investigations show that the rear diffuser guards mounted on the left and right sides are higher (on the Z axis) and misaligned (on the Y axis) than the nominal value shown in official approval of the bodywork, including authorized tolerances », Indicates the official document from the commissioners.
The latter considered that there was no intentional cheating on the part of Cadillac or its chassis supplier Dallara, but that “ violation of the technical regulations (…) had to be sanctioned by disqualification. »
As a result, all other cars ranked behind the Cadillac move up one place in the standings. There Ferrari 499P n°83 from AF Corse (Kubica, Shwartzman, Ye) recovers fourth position in the 1812 km of Qatar. Lamborghini also scores its first two points in the manufacturers' standings.
