Shortened format and new date for the Sebring event

Originally planned in the wake of the 12 Hours of Sebring, counting for theIMSA, next March, the Florida event integrated into the 2018-2019 Super-Season calendar WEC will finally be played on Friday March 15, the IMSA round remaining scheduled for the 16th.

The World Championship race will begin at the end of the afternoon and conclude at night and will ultimately take place over 1000 miles (or eight hours).

“The WEC will use a newly installed, separate pit lane adjacent to the Ulmann Strait Straight, allowing for a smoother and faster transition between on-track testing sessions for the different championships. » also specifies the press release.

The teams will also benefit from an official day of driving on the Florida circuit. “Everyone went to this meeting (held on March 18) with the desire to find a solution that suited everyone, knowing that a certain flexibility was necessary on both sides, and an agreement was quickly found on the points essential such as the agenda, the pit lane and the paddock, comments Gérard Neveu, director of the WEC.

We would like to sincerely thank Scott Atherton and his entire team at IMSA, Wayne Estes and everyone at Sebring Raceway for their cooperation, flexibility and the positive attitude they demonstrated throughout this recent weekend together.

We received a very warm welcome, conducted many meetings while we were in Florida, and many logistical bumps were ironed out for next year's WEC visit. »

The 1000 Miles of Sebring will constitute the sixth meeting of the Super-Season, the first of the coming year before the two concluding meetings of Spa and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2019.
