Glickenhaus partners with Joest Racing

The 007 LMH of the Team Will Cameron Glickenhaus manage to titillate the news Toyota ? It is still far too early to tell, even if the BoP is supposed to allow it.

What is certain is that the American entity – in addition to Pipo Engines – benefits from the services of selected partners. As he revealed in our columns last April, Jim Glickenhaus decided, to develop the aerodynamics of his Le Mans Hypercar, to rely on the expertise and facilities of Sauber.

As for the operation of the cars, it will be provided by Podium Racing Technologies, the same training as that working in the submarine at the Nürburgring. Endurance Series (formerly called VLN) for several years.

But in its task, the Italian entity will be supported by the renowned Joest Racing, involved in 16 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Good news ? On paper certainly.

« The announcement of this technical partnership with Podium Advanced Engineering as part of the FIA program WEC of Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus is a sign of a good start to 2021 for Joest Racing, rejoices Jan Lange, project manager at Joest Racing. This cooperation has been going on for a while now and I must say that working with a highly competent and motivated team like Podium Advanced Engineering is a pleasure. We are particularly happy to return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the garden of Joest Racing. It is not excluded that Glickenhaus' name will appear on the list of winners at the end of the 2021 edition. »

If there is confidence, Joest Racing still has to prove that it still remains a reference in the industry, which some doubt. Already, at the end of the Audi era, it sometimes seemed muddled in the face of Porsche and Toyota. And the association with Mazda Motorsport, in IMSA, from 2018 to early 2020, did not bring the expected results. And for good reason, it is since it has been fully operated by Multimatic that the RT-24 P has managed to take the top step of the podium.

And even if key people such as Justin Taylor or Leena Gade are no longer there, the WEC experience of the German entity – which will notably take care of everything logistical – cannot be harmful to Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus.

On the technical side, things are progressing well in Turin, and the first biturbo V8 has found a place in the first chassis. Scheduled for January 5, the decommissioning of the first 007 LMH has been postponed, as has its competition debut.

In fact, the American Hypercar will not be there in mid-March at the 1000 miles of Sebring (event which could be replaced by a race in Portimao, in April). However, there should be two examples at the start of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (May 1) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 12-13). For the rest, the mystery remains…
