The 2023 World Championship seasonEndurance is fast approaching and with it, the first balance of performance (BoP). Or rather the first performance scales. As expected, the WEC wanted to avoid the controversies of last year by setting the BoP even before the first round of the season, in Sebring (United States). The objective: to avoid games of hide and seek over the real performance of the new Hypercars. The WEC has unveiled two different BoPs, a first for the Florida round, a second for the following three events: Portimão, Spa-Francorchamps and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The heaviest Toyota, the most powerful Glickenhaus

Sebring will see the arrival (or return) of several manufacturers in the premier category of Endurance: Cadillac, Ferrari, Porsche and Vanwall. In Florida, the heaviest car will be the Toyota. The reigning champion GR010 will start its season with a weight of 1062 kg, ahead of the Ferrari 499P with its 1057 kg. There Peugeot 9X8 will start with a weight of 1049, while the Vanwall Vandervell and the Glickenhaus 007LMH will be the lightest, with a weight of 1030 kg.

In terms of power, the Glickenhaus will be best off (520 kW / 707 hp) ahead of the Peugeot (518 kW / 704 hp), which will benefit from an advantage on the deployment of the 4-wheel drive system from 150 km/h (compared to 190 km/h for Ferrari and Toyota). The Vanwall will be the least powerful with 511 kW (695 hp).

The BoP is also set for the following three rounds, at Portimão, Spa-Francorchamps and above all, for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Compared to the inaugural event at Sebring, all Hypercars will be lighter (except Glickenhaus and Vanwall, which will remain at 1030 kg). On the other hand, the power will be reduced for Ferrari (509 kW / 692 hp), Porsche (516 kW / 702 hp), Peugeot (516 kW / 702 hp) and Toyota (512 kW / 696 hp). The BoP will not change for Glickenhaus, while Vanwall will gain one kilowatt of power.
