Mike Rockenfeller replaces Sébastien Bourdais at Vector Sport

Replacing Sébastien Bourdais, busy driving for Cadillac in IMSA, Vector Sport announced the arrival of the German Mike Rockenfeller, 1000 Miles of Sebring, on March 19, alongside Nico Müller and Ryan Cullen. The Frenchman will indeed be busy driving for Cadillac Racing in IMSA the next day, as he confided in our columns.

“This year, LMP2 is certainly the most competitive in the WEC and I am very happy to join Vector Sport for their first race, says Mike Rockenfeller. It will be really cool to be a part of it. It's always great to take on big challenges and this is one of them. Sebring is going to be a busy week for me, but I'm looking forward to it.

I can't wait to start working and try to win some trophies. A big thank you to Action Express Racing and Ally for giving me the opportunity to do this double ride. The Sebring round is very important for them, but I'm very happy to do both and I'm sure we'll make it work! »

Rockenfeller, former factory driver for Porsche, Audi and even Corvette, also enjoyed success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2005 and 2010) and Daytona (2010). Without forgetting his title of world champion of DTM in 2013. The German's experience will be a plus for the team, he who has been racing in IMSA with Action Express Racing for two seasons now.

“We knew from the start that Seb [Bourdais] couldn't be with us at Sebring, but we couldn't have a better replacement than Mike [Rockenfeller] and I know he will fit in very well with the team, explains Gary Holland, Vector Sport team principal. His Sebring experience will be very important for Nico and Ryan, and we can't wait to start the prologue weekend before the 1000 Miles of Sebring. »
