Oreca was waiting for the rain

The Nivernais, rookie in LMP1, had to, during free practice, complete the regulatory laps in night conditions to validate his participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. So it was at nightfall, on a wet track, that Nicolas lapierre made a mistake, an error without seriousness and without damage.

Questioned mid-session, Soheil Ayari nevertheless admitted that Oreca was hoping for rain, thinking that the cars with the AIM engine would be more competitive. But the wet track confirmed the gaps already seen on the dry circuit, with the diesel-powered cars far in front. For Oreca, the goal was therefore to test the different possible configurations in preparation for the race. With a disputed start to the session during the day, in the dry, before seeing the rain fall, the wind blow and night fall, the drivers were treated to all possible conditions.
