WEC / Le Mans – Changes to energy equivalence

If the war on energy efficiency rages in F1, it takes on even more importance in Endurance. After the Prologue runs, the 1 LM P2014 technical regulations, which were published in final version in December 2013, have just been readjusted by the ACO and the FIA. Firstly, the petrol LM P1s. These prototypes will see the maximum capacity of their tank increase from 66,9 to 68,3 l. Change also concerning the quantity of fuel consumed per lap on the route of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (expressed as Endurance in Mj/turn), which goes from 137,5 to 139,5 Mj/turn.

In order to respect equivalences, modifications were also made for Audi. The R18 e-tron quattro will have a 54,3 l tank compared to 54,8 l previously and will only be able to consume 138,7 MJ/turn compared to 140,2 previously. These adjustments will also be applied to the Silverstone and Spa rounds, according to an equivalence scale based on the figures cited above. The other teams entered in LM P1, such as Rebellion or Lotus, will also benefit from energy boosts which will, compared with those of the three ogres Audi, Porsche et Toyota, more important.

The first round of WEC will take place on April 20 on the English circuit of Silverstone.
