The Nissan GT-R LM Nismo will not be back in 2016. The Japanese manufacturer has just announced its package for the next season of WEC in a brief press release.
The project launched by Darren Cox was to build a front-wheel drive LMP1 with an engine placed at the front, but the disappointing performances and the poor performance of the Japanese team in the 24 Hours of Le Mans last June pushed the Japanese brand to withdraw from the 2015 WEC season.
« The team concluded that the program could not achieve the expected results and preferred to focus on developing long-term competition strategies. says Nissan. “We will continue to support the WEC through our engine manufacturer programs. »
If the press release does not confirm a definitive abandonment of the project, it now seems unlikely to see the GT-R LM Nismo on the WEC starting grids again anytime soon.
