After a few difficult years, Williams seems to be getting its head above water at the start of the season. Despite a car still delicate in turns and very sensitive to the wind, the top speed of the FW45 is impressive. So much so that the Grove garage has become one of the teams very regularly involved in the battle for the middle of the grid. Unfortunately in Jeddah, a track which nevertheless corresponds perfectly to the Williams single-seater on paper, everything did not go as planned. Logan sargeant finished painfully 16th, when Alexander albon found himself forced to give up. “ It wasn't such a difficult weekend, delays Thai, there are a lot of positives to come from it. It's the best car I've had since I joined Williams, it's very positive. »

More good performances accumulated from the British team which is reassuring itself, and regaining momentum. Good signs that exacerbate the frustration of the former pilot of the house Red Bull : " We had a lot of potential in the car this weekend that we weren't able to use. In qualifying, we couldn't put everything together. Once in the race, everything went well, we were back to where we normally are “, he says.

A good pace shown by the blue car which could have allowed Albon to reach the top 10 and score points again, as for the inaugural round in Bahrain. But the Williams' brake system did not hold up within the walls of the fastest street circuit on the calendar, and the driver was forced to return to the pits at low speed and abort his race.

« It's a shame because a really good job was done here and at Grove this Friday to prepare the cars for the race, laments Dave Robson, performance director. We can take some positives from this weekend, but we missed a great opportunity to score points and we need to improve to do well in a very tight midfield. » For the moment, the team is on par with the American structure of Haas, ahead Alpha Tauri et McLaren very in difficulty. In the front, Alfa Romeo is not far away in a battle for 6th place in the Manufacturers which will be fought by several.
