2. Logan Sargeant’s junior journey

Logan Sargeant began his single-seater career directly in Europe. After a 2nd place and the title of best rookie in F4 UAE between 2016 and 2017, the Floridian starts with F4 Great Britain under the colors of Carlin.

For his first year, the American finished in 3rd place in the championship behind Oscar Piastri and champion Jamie Caroline, accumulating 2 victories, 8 other podiums and 2 pole positions. During this time, he also participated in a few Formula Renault Eurocup and V de V Challenge rounds with the French R-ace GP team.

The adventure continues with R-ace GP in 2018 with a complete Eurocup program. Here again, Logan Sargeant showed great strength by winning 3 races and taking 2 pole positions as well as 4 other podiums to finish in 4th place.

Without much surprise, he decided to make the jump to F3 the following year where he found Carlin. This time the experience is a little more difficult for the American who finished 19th in the championship without reaching the podium once. The Floridian still managed to distinguish himself with a 3rd place in Macau at the end of the year.

In 2020, Logan Sargeant repeated a category for the first time in his young career. Having moved from Carlin to Prema, the young driver, then aged 19, positioned himself as one of the contenders for the title in this season disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. A title for which he fought until the last round in Mugello (Italy). In the fight against Théo Pourchaire and Oscar Piastri, the future winner, the native of Fort Lauderdale (USA) ultimately settled for 3rd place.

Due to a lack of budget for the 2021 campaign, Sargeant announced that he would initially pause his career before finally finding a solution to try his luck a third time in F3.

If with the modest Charouz structure, the task did not look easy, he managed to have a very good year with a 7th place in the championship, bagging 3 podiums and 1 victory.

In October, a month after the final whistle, he joined the ranks of the Williams Driver Academy. A godsend for him since it allows him to finally leave F3 for F2 where he finds his first European team: Carlin.

For his discovery of the championship, Logan Sargeant is doing quite well. After his timid start, he moved up to second in the summer where he took pole position at Silverstone before winning the Main Race, and that of the following week in Austria.

Enough to knock on the door of the Williams managers, who promised him a starting position in F1 on condition of validating his Super License. Despite the pressure surrounding his tenure, the Floridian won his precious sesame with his 4th place in the championship, synonymous with the best rookie of the season.

Logan Sargeant thus becomes the first American to access the premier category since Alexander Rossi and his 5 Grands Prix with Manor in 2015.

3. Logan Sargeant’s F1 journey

Logan Sargeant made his Grand Prix debut in 2023, after being spotted testing in Austin (USA), Mexico City (Mexico), São Paulo (Brazil), and Abu Dhabi. The Fort Lauderdale native became the first American driver to start since Alexander Rossi in 2015. Although enthusiastic, the first races proved complicated. His season was marked by inconsistent performances and a significant gap to teammate Alex Albon, both in qualifying and in the race. Sargeant only managed to score one point and made several mistakes, which weighed on his position within the team.

The American was renewed for the 2024 season. After a series of disappointments, an accident at Zandvoort precipitated the end of his contract and he was replaced by Franco Colapinto for the last nine Grand Prix of 2024.

4. AUTOhebdo's opinion on Logan Sargeant

Since his debut in single-seaters, Logan Sargeant has always shown that he has a very good top speed. Pole position, overtaking... The American has often been able to get the better of his rivals in the promotional formula. Associated with Alexander Albon, he has not been able to show himself to be consistent enough to continue his journey in Formula 1 with Williams. It remains to be seen whether his future in endurance with Idec Sport will bring him more success.
