Alain Prost: Prost GP, “my biggest mistake”

Alain Prost confided in the FIA Auto magazine thathe bitterly regretted having embarked on the Prost GP adventure. The four-time world champion who competed in the Grand Prix of F1 from 1980 to 1993 launched his team in 1997 by buying Ligier, but the structure only lasted four seasons with only three podiums to boot.

“We had some great results, coming close to winning just three months after launching the team, but I was telling my close friends and family that 'I was dead.' I knew it from the start. I knew F1 and the country too well. This was my biggest mistake. I would have been better off not doing it. I shouldn't have made this decision at the last minute.", recognized the Frenchman.

Alain Prost even admitted thathe mentioned the idea to Ayrton Senna a few days before the disappearance of his former teammate at McLaren at the San Marino GP on May 1, 1994. “It’s funny because we were on the phone a week before his accident. I said to Ayrton, “It would be fun if I had my team one day and you were my driver.” » We laughed at that. We had already discussed the idea of taking over Ligier at the beginning of 1994. It would have been really fantastic”, added “the Professor”.
