Alexander albon, a reputation that can handicap him? Known for being one of the least aggressive drivers on the grid, very often with a smile on his face in the paddock, the Thai did not establish himself as a real "brute" in Formula 1. And that, at Williams, we would like that to change. If for its first season at Grove, the British team confided to being very satisfied with the performances of the ex-driver Red Bull, Jost Capito's team wants Alexander Albon to toughen up in the future.

“He is a nice person, sometimes too nice. He has to be a little tougher on the team and push us a little more, but we are working on it, declared François-Xavier Demaison, technical director at Williams. It's his nature: when he wears the helmet, sometimes he can be aggressive, but he should be a little more demanding in the debriefing. Every day, I tell him: 'You must be a...', a word that I won't say! If you want to be world champion, you have to be like that. »

Albon, team leader at Williams in 2023

This season, for his return to Formula 1 after a year of absence, the Thai achieved several solid performances aboard the modest FW44, scoring 4 points and a few appearances in Q3. Thanks to his history in the Red Bull family, Alexander Albon was able to guide the British team in the development of its car. “It was a very good help for us, because we are just engineers and we need drivers to give us direction. Thanks to his experience [in F1], he helped us and gave us the right direction”, explained François-Xavier Demaison, assessing the impact that Albon may have had on Williams.

Next season, Williams will have to deal with a very juvenile line-up since Logan sargeant, barely 22 years old, will join the Grove structure in 2023. Alexander Albon will therefore have to become a team leader to help Williams progress in the hierarchy and not finish, once again, bottom in the constructors' championship.
