Alfa Romeo unveils its new C41

It was from Warsaw (Poland) thatAlfa Romeo lifted the veil on the new C41 that the Finnish Kimi Räikkönen, 2007 world champion, and the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi will drive in 2021. The duo is teaming up for the 3rd consecutive season. They will once again be supported by the Pole Robert Kubica, who joined the Hinwil (Switzerland) team last year.

The new creation is called C41, a leap in the nomenclature established under the Sauber identity since the car 2019 was called C39. Explanation: the C40 was designed to respond to the aerodynamic revolution initially planned for 2021, then postponed by a year due to the health crisis.

Alfa Romeo is coming out of a difficult 2020 campaign, marked by a fairly clear drop in performance, partly due to a powertrain Ferrari lagging behind the competition.

Frédéric Vasseur's men still managed to preserve their 8th place in the Manufacturers' standings and hope that the new Maranello engine will allow them to aim for points more regularly in 2021.

Jan Monchaux, Alfa Romeo technical director, revealed that the team from Hinwil (Switzerland) had spent its 2 development tokens on the production of a new nose.

The front suspension has also been redesigned, as have the front wing and side spoilers. Other changes concern the flat bottom, the rear brake scoops, and the diffuser. The latter are the consequence of modifications added to the technical regulations last year, after the postponement of the aerodynamic revolution initially planned for 2021.

Räikkönen recognizes that everyone “ is a little in the unknown » in the light of the 2021 regulatory changes. First verdict during the winter tests, which will take place in Bahrain from March 12 to 14.
