Already seen at the wheel of the VJM09 powered by the V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit Mercedes, during pre-season testing in Barcelona last February, Mexican Alfonso Celis Jr will take part in the first free practice session in Bahrain on April 1.
The former resident of the GP3 Series and Formula Renault 3.5 in 2015 will take the place of his compatriot Sergio Pérez for the occasion and will thus make his big debut during a Grand Prix weekend.
