Alonso: some drivers do too much

Fernando Alonso believes Daniil Kvyat was too aggressive at the start of the Austrian GP, with the Toro Rosso driver wanting to secure his future.

Fernando Alonso retired from the first corner of the Austrian GP contested last weekend on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Starting from 12th position, the driver McLaren was hit by Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) in distress with his brakes and crashed into the Red Bull RB13 of Max Verstappen.

The McLaren driver can only regret such a premature end to the race. The double world champion has formed his opinion regarding Daniil Kvyat's daring maneuver.

“It was a classic mistake. We knew it was going to be complicated starting in the middle of the grid. It's clearly not useful to try to gain a few meters, but drivers sometimes want to prove that they deserve their place and their future and they sometimes take a little too much risk. »

“I couldn’t do anything, I was just a passenger, adds Fernando Alonso. I got off to a good start again, taking advantage of Carlos' bad start (Sainz Jr) and Max. I was already 10th when I arrived at the first corner. A drive-through wasn't a lot to pay for, but that's how it is. I hope we won't have any problems next time at the first corner. »

Fernando Alonso remains the only McLaren driver to score points this season for McLaren-Honda. His teammate Stoffel Vandoorne placed 12th at the Austrian GP.
