A dream start. The relationship Fernando Alonso - Aston Martin starts with a podium in the first race of the season, with a 3rd place in the Bahrain Grand Prix. An exceptional result for the Spaniard who, at the age of 41, achieved a 99th career podium, 20 years after his first in Formula 1 (Malaysia 2003)! Above all, a podium obtained on a regular basis: if he still benefited from the abandonment of Charles Leclerc, the “Bull of Asturias” was able to use his experience and his tire management to successively overtake Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz.

Frustrated at Alpine, Fernando Alonso has the feeling of living again with Aston Martin. “It’s fabulous for the team, it was a great weekend. Finishing on the podium in the first race of the year... it's incredible what Aston Martin did during the winter, to have the 2nd best car from the start of the season. It's unreal! »

Alonso already focused on Jeddah

The double Spanish world champion also returned to his on-track duels with Sainz and Hamilton. “I would have loved to start in front of them and escape with my pace but we didn't have the best start, we had to pass them on the track. But it was more exciting, there was adrenaline. I really enjoyed it, the team did too, so now we have to continue in Jeddah. »

This 3rd place for the first Grand Prix logically means that the Spaniard is also 3rd in the drivers' championship. A position he had not experienced since… 2013, also the date of his last victory in Formula 1 (Spain 2013). From now on, the Spaniard and his British team can no longer hide, and could quickly claim better than a simple podium...
