Alonso: “Half the job is done”

Fernando Alonso was satisfied after qualifying for the Singapore GP. The two pilots McLaren managed to reach Q3, even ahead of the Toro Rosso de Carlos Sainz Jr during the last qualifying session.

The MCL32s fought with the Renault de Nico Hulkenberg but lost to the RS 17. The Asturian will start from ninth in front of his teammate Stoffel Vandoorne.

“The first objective of having both cars in Q3 was achieved. Half the job has been done, commented Fernando Alonso. The second objective is to have both cars in the points, which I think is possible given our starting positions. Race pace is always the unknown parameter, it's always difficult to read. »

“Our tires were a little tight during testing on the long runs. Knowing that overtaking is difficult, positions will be more or less established after the first lap. We will therefore have to concentrate on getting a good start and a good first corner. You will then have to avoid making mistakes. The first six cars (Ferrari, Red Bull et Mercedes) are too fast. We will therefore have to defend our positions and try if possible to climb to seventh place,” added the McLaren driver.

McLaren fights to maintain ninth place in the Constructors' Championship against Sauber F1 team.
