Alonso: “the commissioners must have been at Heineken”

Fernando Alonso was long disturbed by the incident with Jolyon Palmer at the Italian GP. The pilot McLaren, fighting in the second part of the peloton, was fighting with the driver Renault at the Della Rogia chicane when the Briton cut the track to avoid contact with the MCL32.

Despite a 5s sanction imposed on Jolyon Palmer for taking advantage of this outing, Fernando Alonso hoped for a more severe sanction against the Renault driver. Upon learning that he had retired (due to a mechanical problem), the Asturian showed his satisfaction by mentioning “karma”.

“We braked late when we arrived at the chicane. I was able to turn the corner but not him. He cut and stayed ahead, explained Fernando Alonso. This is usually something that is very clear in the regulations... The position must be given, but the commissioners had to be at Heineken (reference to the sponsor of the F1."

“It was not according to F1 standards. There is no possible interpretation, it’s black and white”, added Fernando Alonso who finally retired before the finish of the Italian GP.
