Alonso: Progress is there

Fernando Alonso did not imagine himself starting from the front before setting the third time, even if he hoped to see a progression in the hierarchy in the peloton. Everything is not yet settled since his teammate Felipe Massa only takes 16th place, but the Asturian will have the joy of starting on the front row at home after taking advantage of the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton. The Asturian is aware that this qualifying session was special, but he is nevertheless convinced that the F2012 is now faster.

“I didn’t expect this position”, admitted the Spaniard. “We were hoping that our progress would help us get into Q3 more easily compared to the first races, but I didn't expect to be so well placed on the grid. I don't know if this position reflects our true performance because it's really not normal for a Red Bull and McLaren are eliminated in Q2 and the second Red Bull no longer has soft tires for Q3. But at least I am sure that the new elements brought in are a good thing, even if it is not yet enough for us to be able to fight at the forefront. It's a good start to the weekend but the points will be for tomorrow. I will try to make the best possible start knowing that my direct rivals for the title will be behind me. »
