Alonso: McLaren should have won in Baku

Fernando Alonso is far from rejoicing at having scored the first points of the season for McLaren at the Azerbaijan GP in Baku. The Asturian took 9th place after taking advantage of the racing circumstances and reaching the finish without encountering any mechanical problems.

The frustration was palpable in the words of the double world champion who is chasing a 33rd victory in F1 since his success at the 2013 Spanish GP he played for Ferrari.

“It was a race that we should have won under normal circumstances because I was with Ricciardo when the safety car first came out, declares Fernando Alonso. Hamilton lost its cockpit protection, Hag was penalized, the Force India were out of the race for victory, Kimi retired… We automatically find ourselves 2nd or 3rd and we could have fought for victory, but we are not in a position to do so. »

Stoffel Vandoorne took 12th place, only ahead of Romain Grosjean (Haas).
