Alonso: McLaren, one of the two most prestigious teams

Fernando Alonso expressed his satisfaction in defending the interests of McLaren-Honda on the occasion of the presentation of the MCL32. If the Asturian does not seem able to win a third title due to the poor performance of the British team, he assures that he is not frustrated by the situation.

“I think McLaren-Honda and Ferrari are the two most prestigious stables, commented the former resident of the Scuderia. We are not winning at the moment, of course, but it is a nice coincidence that these two teams are presenting their cars on the same day. We need to see how this news F1 are evolving and who will dominate the discipline with the new regulations. »

While his former teammate Jenson Button has chosen to retire, Fernando Alonso has not yet thought about ending his F1 career.

“We’ll see in the future. There will be no point in talking about it before August or September because I will be fully focused on the season and we will have to observe the forces present in the peloton with the new regulations. Perhaps we will see a new team dominate with these new cars. »

Fernando Alonso also confirmed that he had been contacted by Mercedes following the withdrawal of Nico Rosberg but that he had not continued the discussions.

“After Rosberg’s surprise, Mercedes contacted a bit of everyone and that’s understandable. My situation was very clearly established. I'm with McLaren-Honda this year, I'm satisfied with it, and there was no need to discuss the subject."he said.

Fernando Alonso will participate with Stoffel Vandoorne in winter testing which will begin this Monday, February 27 in Barcelona (Spain).
